Install & activation
Last updated July 2026
After checkout you'll get an email with your license key and a download link. Keep that email: the key activates both surfaces and you'll want it if you reinstall.
Requirements
- macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple Silicon
- Premiere Pro / After Effects 2023 or later (for the extension)
- DaVinci Resolve on macOS — free edition works (beta plugin)
Install the Mac app
- Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Lost Media Emulator into Applications.
- Launch it. On first run, macOS asks you to confirm an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.
- Paste your license key when prompted. That machine is now activated.
Install the Premiere / After Effects extension
The download is a .zip with the control panel and the seven render effects. You need both: the panel drives the effects.
- Quit Premiere Pro and After Effects.
- Open the .zip and double-click Install.command. The first time, right-click it → Open → Open to clear macOS Gatekeeper.
- Enter your Mac password when asked. It installs the seven effects into Adobe's shared plugin folder and adds the panel.
- Reopen the app. The panel is under Window → Extensions → Lost Media Emulator; the effects are under Video Effects → Lost Media.
- Paste your license key in the panel to activate.
Prefer to do it by hand? The READ ME FIRST.txt in the download has the manual steps.
Install the DaVinci Resolve plugin (bundle beta)
Ultimate Bundle downloads include an OFX plugin for DaVinci Resolve: eight effects, one of them a unified effect with the full 128-look dropdown. It works in the free edition of Resolve on macOS. No license key needed while it's in beta.
- Quit DaVinci Resolve.
- Open the .zip and double-click Install.command. The first time, right-click it → Open → Open to clear macOS Gatekeeper.
- Enter your Mac password when asked. The effects install into /Library/OFX/Plugins, the only folder Resolve scans.
- Reopen Resolve. On the Color page, open Effects, search “Lost Media”, and drag Lost Media Emulator onto a node. Pick a look from the dropdown.
Nothing appears? Check the plugins are in /Library/OFX/Plugins, not your user Library, then fully quit Resolve (Cmd-Q) and reopen it. If something misbehaves, email us.
Updates
Updates inside your major version are free. The app checks for them on launch; for the extension, download the latest build and reinstall over the old one. Your key keeps working.
Moving to a new machine
Deactivate on the old machine (Preferences → License → Deactivate), then activate on the new one with the same key. Lost the old machine? Email us and we'll reset it.
Troubleshooting
- Key won't activate: check for a stray space, and that you're online for the first activation.
- Panel missing in Premiere: confirm the extension installed to the right CEP folder, then restart the app.
- Gatekeeper blocks the app: right-click the app → Open, then confirm once.
